06/05/2010 THE FAST AND THE GLORIOUS BACK ON TRACK!

In 2010, GT racing is moving into a new era, with the launch of the FIA GT1 World Championship, the culmination of 15 years of evolution and change in GT racing.  So it is an appropriate time for GT racing’s own historic series, the GT 90’s Revival, to evolve as well.

From now on, the series will be known simply as the GT Revival Series, and will be open to GT cars from the early 1990’s right through to those from 2005.  The aim is to give an opportunity for cars to get out of their garages and back to the race track, where they belong.

The 2010 calendar will include two events, scheduled within the most exclusive French classic motor racing meetings, the Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or in Dijon and the Grand Prix Historique of Provence, at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit.

Depending on the number of cars entered, classifications will be done according to category, with GT1, GT2 and GT3 classes.

The series is based around sprint races, both exciting to watch and in keeping with the current generation of GT competition.   The race weekends include two 30-minute free practice sessions, two 15-minute qualifying sessions and two fifty-minute races

The first round, the “Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or” , takes place at the Dijon-Prenois circuit on June 20th 2010.  It promises to be an excellent event with many historic series taking part, and plenty of entertainment for all.  It includes events such as the Sir Stirling Moss Trophy, for sportscars before 1960 the RAC Woodcote Trophy for GT cars before 1956 and Motor Racing Legends for pre-War cars; other cars present will include Grand Prix cars from before 1966, Formula Ford Historics, Formula Ford Kent and various GT and Touring Cars.  Among such venerable cars, those of the GTRevival Series will be mere youngsters – but powerful, exciting and most definitely thrilling to watch.

While looking to the future, it remains important to think of the past – and the GT Revival Series should take care of the cars which allowed GT racing to step onto the world stage in 2010 !
